Recently, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) announced that drivers will have until 30th September 2021 to renew their licences, and there will be no further extensions to the road tax that was previously given.

Not so long ago,  JPJ allowed road users to drive without a road tax due to the ongoing pandemic. The only condition was that road users need to have proof of valid insurance by showing their e-cover note. However, as announced by JPJ, currently this road tax exemption will no longer be valid from September 30th onwards.

The Competent Driving Licence (CDL), Motor Vehicle Licence (LKM or road tax), Goods Driving Licence (GDL), and Public Service Vehicle (PSV) Licence are among the licenses that need to be renewed by Malaysian road users by September 30th.

JPJ encourages road users to renew their licences online using the MySikap JPJ or MyEG portal. However, you also have the option to renew their licenses over the counter by scheduling an appointment. JPJ announced that national courier Pos Malaysia would begin to handle JPJ transactions from 9th August 2021 onwards, as they have over 650 outlets nationwide.
